Fast-track is a process designed to speed up approval of major infrastructure and development projects that will benefit Aotearoa New Zealand’s national and regional economies.
Examples of projects that have applied to Fast-track vary from the construction of new roads and houses to renewable energy options like wind farms, and the expansion of mining efforts for gold and sand, to name a few.
Some of these projects could be proposed in your rohe. If that is so, the Fast-track law is specific that certain Māori groups relevant to the area should be consulted before the project is progressed. This step is introduced at the start of the proposal.
For an overview of the role of Māori groups in Fast-track, visit this page.
A list of projects that have been included in the Fast-track law is on this website. This will give you an idea of the scale of the proposed projects. You can search by project name, region and sector.
