Project summary

This substantive application is for the Southern Block (between Fagan Creek and Canoe Creek) stage of the Barrytown Minerals listed project. 

The original project listing application covers a wider scope. This included establishing and operating mine sites, processing facilities, and ancillary activities for mineral sand extraction activities, processing, and transporting product at Barrytown, West Coast.

Mining may be undertaken in stages.

Resource blocks include:

• Southern Block (between Fagan Creek and Canoe Creek)

• Central Block (north of Canoe Creek to the northern extent of Canoe Creek Lagoon)

• Northern Block (south of Burke Road and north of Burke Road to Maher Swamp).

This project's name and description have been updated by the Fast-track Approvals Amendment Act 2025.

The applicant may lodge separate substantive applications for other stages. If they do, these will have their own pages on this website.

Project location

Approximately 700 hectares between Fagan Creek and Maher Swamp and between the coast and State Highway 6 at Barrytown Flats, Greymouth.

Completeness decision

The substantive application by Tāiko Critical Minerals Limited was deemed complete on 29 June 2026. The application complies with the requirements of section 46 (2) of the Fast-track Approvals Act 2024. The application was lodged on 8 June 2026.
