Project summary

Expand existing coking coal mining activities, and extend the life of the mine, to enable the extraction of, approximately, an additional 20 million tonnes over 25 years, including:

  • water diversion, and water control and treatment facilities

  • historic acid mine drainage rehabilitation.

Within the Buller Coal Plateaux:

Stockton Plateau

Stockton Mine (including the aerial ropeway and Ngakawau Rail loadout area), and Upper Waimangaroa mine permit area (includes Mt Fred South).

Denniston Plateau (near Westport)

Escarpment Mine permit area and Whareatea West mine permit application area (Escarpment Extension), and Sullivan Coal Mining Licence area.
