Costco Christchurch

Project summary

The project involves the following:

• establishing a new Costco Wholesale warehouse retail store, with ancillary tyre centre, food court and retail area, with an approximate gross floor area (GFA) of 16,090m², together with associated signage and parking
• establishing a members’ fuel facility, including an associated data hut, signage, and vehicle manoeuvring areas to service both cars and trucks
• establishing approximately 7,900m² of complementary large-format retail activities, together with associated signage and parking
• amending the approved subdivision boundaries and establishing new and modified road connections and vehicle access points to support the development, including removing and replacing street trees
• enabling works, including site preparation, earthworks and the installation of supporting roading infrastructure and services including required upgrades.

The project will require the following approvals:

• resource consents, and change or cancellation of existing resource consent conditions, under the Resource Management Act 1991
  
• approval under the Wildlife Act 1953 (the requirement of which will be confirmed prior to a substantive application being lodged).

Project location

The site is in Avonhead, Christchurch, bounded by Memorial Avenue to the north, Avonhead Road to the south, and Russley Road (State Highway 1) to the west. It involves four land parcels  with a combined area of approximately 17.68 ha:

• 475 Memorial Avenue (Lot 2 DP 553686)
• 500 Avonhead Road (Lot 1 DP 553686)
• 520 Avonhead Road (Lot 5 DP 28780)
• 400 Russley Road (Sec 8 SO 544350).
