Dr Lee Beattie (Chair)
Dr Lee Beattie is an urban designer and urban planner with almost 30 years of professional experience in an extensive range of complex urban design and urban planning matters. He has qualifications in urban design, urban planning, and environmental science. Lee has worked in both the public (local government) and private sectors and is currently an Associate Professor of Urban Design and the Head of the University of Auckland’s School of Architecture and Planning.
He is an independent hearing commissioner for several local councils in New Zealand and has been appointed to New Zealand government panels and advisory boards covering a range of urban design and planning issues influencing government policy and legislative changes. He is a professional member of the Royal Society of New Zealand and is a Registered Urban Designer. In March 2025 he was made a Fellow of the New Zealand Planning Institute.
Alan Pattle
Alan is a Chartered Professional Engineer with over 40 years of experience in civil and environmental engineering. Alan is the co-founder and director of the consulting firm Pattle Delamore Partners Ltd (PDP), specialists in water resources, ecology, contaminated land management and environmental engineering. The company has been providing consulting services to clients throughout New Zealand for over 35 years.
As well as being recognised as one of New Zealand’s most experienced and skilled groundwater practitioners, Alan’s skills and experience extend across a wide range of environmental disciplines. He has worked on environmental, land-development and infrastructure projects throughout New Zealand, as well as in Australia, Asia, the UK and in the Pacific. He is an experienced expert witness and a practicing Hearings Commissioner.
Ian Munro
Ian Munro is a senior, self-employed urban designer, planner and independent decision maker. He has approximately 25 years experience and has worked on over 3,000 projects across the country for Councils, developers, submitters, and other community groups. Ian has a Bachelor of Planning and Masters Degrees in Planning; Architecture [Urban Design]; Environmental Legal Studies; and Engineering Studies [Transportation]. His projects span urban growth, subdivision, transport and corridor planning, and land use planning. Ian is a Full Member of the New Zealand Planning Institute and a Registered Urban Designer with the Urban Designers Institute Aotearoa.
Ian currently teaches urban design theory and practice as part of the University of Auckland's Master of Urban Design degree, and has co-presented the New Zealand Planning Institute's Urban Design for Planners CPD course for over 15-years.
