Project summary
The project involves a weir structure, powerhouse and discharge structure on Ōkere/Kaituna River for the purposes of controlling and diverting water.
Other activities include the clearance of vegetation and earthworks, associated restoration, and connecting to existing National Grid transmission lines via the adjacent Taheke Geothermal Project.
Taheke Geothermal Project was granted resource consents in 2024 under the COVID-19 Recovery (Fast-track Consenting) Act 2020.

Project referral
The project referral application was returned to the applicant on 1 May 2025 as non-compliant with the requirements of the Fast-track Approvals Act 2024.
If a project is not referred, the applicant can apply for referral again. This is considered a new application, subject to fees and charges.
